World Book Day is a time to celebrate stories, ideas, and the power of books to challenge thinking and inspire change. So we thought it was a perfect time to remind you that Lee (Smith) and I are currently in the throes of writing a book!
You might be wondering if the world really needs yet another business book, and I’ll be honest, I’ve asked myself the same thing. But book writing does not come easily or naturally to me, so to undertake this, I’ve got to be 100% sure that this book is needed… and I really am! 😊
I started my career in IC back in the 1990s, like so many of us falling into this world more by accident than design. But to my delight and surprise, I felt like I’d found my thing—something I was passionate about, believed in, and was good at. And I loved working with other IC pros. But over the years, I kind of got a bit jaded and cynical. The conversation seemed stuck on the same issues: how to get a seat at the table, how to communicate with remote workers, how to make your channels work… In short, the IC profession seemed to be stuck in the 90s! But the world of work has changed.
Employees today expect more: more connection, more meaning, and more opportunities to have a voice. And when you throw AI into the mix, it feels like finally we have the burning platform we need for an internal communication revolution. Our new book, Reimagining Internal Comms: A People-First Approach, is designed to challenge the status quo and equip IC professionals with the models, tools, and strategies needed to create truly human-centred communication.
We’re not just talking about small tweaks—we’re advocating for a fundamental shift in how organisations approach IC. One that sees employees not as passive recipients of corporate messages, but as active participants in shaping the workplace experience.
We don’t want to give too much away, but some of the areas we’ll be covering include:
✅ A new blueprint for internal comms, rooted in human-centred design
✅ How AI is reshaping IC—and why a people-first approach is more important than ever
✅ The psychology and neuroscience of communication—what really works (and what doesn’t)
✅ Practical tools from EX, CX, and design thinking to transform the way we communicate
We’re talking about a radically different way to approach IC, and we’ve been lucky enough to work with clients over the past few years whose pioneering case studies we’re excited to share. But we’re on the lookout for more voices to contribute and feature in the book—are you approaching IC with a different mindset involving curiosity and empathy? Maybe you’re mapping IC journeys or developing IC service design blueprints? Or perhaps you’ve developed some behaviour-based personas that you use with empathy maps to help you get super clear on the IC problem you’re trying to solve. Or maybe you use ideation tools to help you explore different solutions, which you then prototype and test before whole company activation. If so, we would really love to hear from you and feature you in our book.
Drop me a line if you have any questions or would like to chat further—I’d love to hear from you! And in the meantime, enjoy World Book Day! 😊
@Emma
