How to transform employee experience without breaking the bank

These days, it feels like everyone is into podcasts. I’ll admit, I dip into them occasionally, but my first love has always been a good read. If I’m putting on my headphones, chances are I’m tuning into music rather than a podcast. Meanwhile, my appetite for the written word—whether books, blogs, articles, or newsletters—remains insatiable. My reading habits are as eclectic as they come, covering everything from fashion and food to politics, psychology, and, of course, employee experience (EX). When I find something that catches my attention I’m quick to hit “subscribe.”

But lately, I’ve noticed a growing trend: the rise of paid-for Substack subscriptions. Don’t get me wrong—I’m all for supporting creators and appreciate the value of their work. The issue is that my love for reading means I’m tempted to subscribe to everything, and those seemingly small costs quickly add up. What starts as the price of a fancy coffee can snowball into something closer to a Michelin-star meal each month! Like many of us, I’ve had to be more selective about where I spend.

The pressure to do more with less

It’s no secret that times are tough economically—both for individuals and businesses. In our recently published EX Report, we shared that budgets for employee experience and engagement have been significantly cut. And yet, the demand to deliver a better employee experience has never been greater. This is where The EX Space comes in.

At the EX Space we believe that transforming the world of work should be accessible to everyone. That’s why a subscription to The EX Space Essentials is completely free. No catches. No hidden fees. Just a treasure trove of insights, resources, and a vibrant community of professionals dedicated to making work better. If you haven’t signed up yet, now is the perfect time to join us. Join The EX Space or find out more here.

Come say hello at the EX EXPO

Speaking of free opportunities, I’m thrilled to share that I’ll be running a couple of sessions at the upcoming EX EXPO. The best part? It’s free to attend! If you’re planning to be there, let me know—I’m organising a post-conference meet up for drinks and maybe a bite to eat.

At its core, employee experience is about connection—whether it’s connecting with great ideas, with our teams, or with one another. I’d love to connect with you, so sign up for The EX Space, swing by the EX EXPO, or drop me a message. Let’s transform work together.
