We spend a huge chunk of our lives at work. It shouldn’t be a miserable experience.
And we know everyone benefits when it’s not: employees, customers, organisations, and society. I believe work doesn’t have to be miserable experience. It is this belief that inspired me to set up People Lab all those years ago. I’m incredibly proud of the work we have done with 100s of organisations around the world, to improve the experience, and subsequent engagement of employees. And we’ll continue to do this work, hopefully for many years to come.
But over the last few years, I’ve become increasingly frustrated. Despite the best efforts of committed, and passionate practitioners, it feels like we’re barely scratching the surface. The great resignation, quiet quitting, industrial unrest, the battle over where we work, low engagement, employee activism, burnout…. It’s clear there’s work to be done. Which is why Lee and I founded The EX Space.
We want to do more to positively improve the experience and engagement of everyday employees, in every corner of the world, no matter the organisation they work in. It’s time for employees to come first. A decent experience at work should be a basic right, not an afterthought, or something that is left to chance.
We’re on a mission to enable the EX era.
And to do this we want to support, enable and empower you – the practitioner.
We want to professionalise the world of experience and engagement. We want to equip you, as the new generation of practitioners in this emerging field, with the knowledge, skills, tools and network you need to deliver transformative change inside your organisations. We want to create a safe space to meet, share and learn from your peers. But most of all we want to build the EX Space, to support you to improve the experiences, and engagement, of ordinary employees.
By creating a global community we can generate the momentum we need to make this happen. Together we can realise the same sort of paradigm shift we saw in customer experience all those years ago. More than ever before, the ability of organisations to attract and retain great people, indeed their very survival, depends on the experiences their people have at work. We believe this period marks the start of a new era in work, the EX era!
