Sometimes you need to stop, take stock and really appreciate the good work you (and your team) have done. In the world of employee experience and engagement, we rarely have time to come up for air, moving straight onto the next thing – which is why I am a big advocate for entering your work for awards.
There are lots of great reasons why entering awards is a good idea:
- Writing your award entry is a brilliant learning experience. It forces you to stop and reflect on the work you have done. Consider what went well, and what you learned.
- And when your entry is written you’ll feel great, as you look back at the brilliant work you’ve done. It’s so easy to move onto to the next thing without really appreciating a great piece of work
- Having a case study ready, prepared to showcase the work you’ve done, makes good business sense. In today’s climate you never know when you might need it.
- Often entering awards means presenting your case study to a panel of experts. This might sound scary but it’s really not – they are on your side and most of them have been in your shoes. And this is another great learning experience
- The feedback you get from the judges is invaluable. To have experts look inside your organisation at the work you’re doing and tell you how you’re getting on is priceless. And more often than not will give you a huge confidence boost too
- Getting through to the finals and even winning an award is a wonderful way to recognise and celebrate the work you (and your team) are doing
- The external recognition and validation for your work, not only feels great but will open doors and throw brilliant opportunities your way. Expect to be tapped up to share your case study (I’ll be the first in the queue!) and be invited to speak at webinars, events and conferences.
These days I’m often asked to judge various awards, but the one I always go for is ‘The UK Employee Experience Awards’.
I’ve been a judge for quite a few years now and I absolutely love hearing the brilliant work practitioners are doing. The key aspect contributing to the credibility and impartiality of this awards programme is the scoring process. Each category has 3-6 judges assessing the written entry and the live presentation at the Awards Finals. All the judges are EX experts, and their experience and expertise guarantee fair and objective scoring.
